The South African MTN-Qhubeka cycling team will ride their 1st world tour race at Il Lombardia on Sunday and they will go all out to impress the race organisers RSC Sports,who,happen to be the same organisers’ of the Giro d’Italia.
MTN – Qhubeka have achieved great success this year as the 1st ever South African team to be cycling at the highest level of the sport.The win at Milan San Remo went along way in them securing their entry to Il Lombardia which is 1 of the last 5 monuments on the 1 day cycling calendar.
The race that is known as “The Race of the Falling Leaves” will see 4 African riders taking part in their first ever WorldTour race on Sunday. These 4 are lead by the recent silver medallist in the U23 men’s road at the World Championships, Louis Meintjes, who will line up alongside Tsgabu Grmay, Jacques Janse van Rensburg and Meron Russom
The other South Africans in the team for the race are Songezo Jim and Jay Thomson who have both raced at the highest level of competition before.Douglas Ryder and his team continue to impress and it won’t be long before we will all be supporting our South African team in 1 of cycling’s 3 Grand Tours.
